Karma Dogs is not a rescue. We do promote adopting rescue dogs and even offer free dog adoption assistance. While that will help a few dogs get out of a shelter and on to better things, Karma Dogs focuses on teaching children how to appreciate, care for and grow into responsible pet owners. How? By teaching children that dogs (or any companion animal) is not something disposable. We live in a disposable society- video games, cell phones, ipods, shoes; they all go out of fashion very fast and become obsolete in the swish of a tail. As dogs continue to become fashionable, they will also continue to fall out of favor. Today's must-have Puggle (a pug/beagle mix) is tomorrow's shelter dog. It shouldn't be that way. Dogs are living creatures, with personalities, abilities, feelings and needs. While they are not human, they do depend on you for all of their needs, similar to children. Karma Dogs believes that if children are taught about how to be a responsible pet owner today, they will grow into responsible pet owners tomorrow. It won't happen overnight, but as children learn that pets can be study buddies, exercise pals and fluffy confidants, we believe they will be less likely to grow up to be irresponsible pet owners. If children learn to appreciate all of the merits of dogs today, we hope there will be fewer dogs in shelters, fewer victims of abuse and fewer unwanted litters. It is not a fast paced approach to saving dogs. However, we are dedicated to helping dogs, one person at a time.
